An intimate wedding in times of corona
Getting married with the necessary hustle and bustle in the time of corona? You better think twice. In many European countries, the government wants to prevent a further outbreak of the disease by limiting the amount of spectators attending weddings. Often solely the bride, groom, maid of honor and best man can be a witness of the special and intimate ceremony. In Belgium in particular, you need to celebrate your love with just the two of you, at least until the 18th of May. Other countries appear to be a little more flexible and allow you to cheer on love and happiness with just a handful of loved ones. Yet how do you make this special day unforgettable, or at least festive, in times of corona?
A moment that belongs to just the two of you
Whoever decides to marry right at this instance, can only get married by law. A joyful ceremony with personal vows (in a church or other preferred location) and with friends and family tearing up a little is currently still out of place. However, this does not mean you can’t turn this event into the most beautiful day of your lives. Especially now it remains important to look at the bright side of life. Is it just the two of you attending the wedding? Enjoy the exchange of your carefully selected rings to the fullest and drink a glass of champagne with the Mayor at City Hall. Because in the end, that is what it is all about: the two of you consciously choosing for a life together. You can reminiscence this official affirmation together. Make time for a romantic photoshoot in the deserted streets of your hometown, a lovely park our forest closely to your home (with the photographer at a safe distance), where you fully enjoy each other’s company and the beautiful weather.
Festive wedding dinner
A fancy dinner with several courses or a busy wedding reception are not an option in these times. Yet, an intimate wedding does not entail you having to cook for yourself. Order an impressive meal at your favorite local restaurant or caterer and turn the evening into a culinary indulgence. Buy gorgeous flower bouquets at a local flower shop to give your home an extra festive touch, put on the radio on your favorite song and dance the night away in the middle of your living room or on your bare feet in the garden grass. Look at it as a final rehearsal for your first dance. Because on your eventual wedding party, you will do it all over again. Do you still need some extra company on this special day? Zoom, Skype and Google Hangouts will enable you to raise the glass with your friends and family.
What if the government measures ease?
If the measures taken by the government become more flexible after May 18th, a big party in the foreseeable future might not yet be considered safe. However, maybe you can already celebrate with close friends and family during a summer BBQ or a delicious brunch after a modest garden ceremony. Are you really looking forward to full-blown wedding with hundreds of guests? It would be wise to postpone the wedding to fall 2020 or spring 2021.
